Heart-breaking. I’m so sorry for Charlie’s losses and for the hardships all of you Coney Islanders are enduring. Will try to spread the word.
Thank you!
Hello from Brighton Beach.I can only see these photos because I have an air card for my laptop since I don’t have internet. So much devastation! Best wishes to all in Coney Island.

So sorry to see so much havoc and devastation! I hope everyone stays safe.
thanks for posting
we have no power or heat
at library for free wifi
can you post about cyclone and amusement areas, wonder wheel etc
people here are saying some destroyed
see nothing in papers
Jack, I’m so sorry you still have no power or internet. I got back power on Saturday but having connectivity issues with internet and unable to post on blog from this location tonight. Cyclone and Wonder Wheel withstood the superstorm and will certainly open next season in the rebuilt Coney Island. However the flooding damaged the electrical systema of majority of rides as well as arcade machines and everyplace in amusement area is waterlogged with the exception of the stores on the Boardwalk.
Seeing the photos makes me cry….I will always love Coney Island and Staten Island. I live in Alameda, California now, which is an island attached to Alameda County, but I will never forget the beach, the park, or visiting my Great Grandmother in Coney Island when she had gotten up in years. She had lived for many years on Staten Island. I’m praying for all of you who have been so adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy.
