If you’re a wimp when it comes to thrill rides, this on-ride POV vid is your chance to go for a virtual spin on Zamperla’s new Air Race. Woo hoo! From our article about Luna Park in the August issue of IAAPA Funworld: “Our intention is to have the latest rides that we develop in our park,” says Valerio Ferrari (CEO of Zamperla USA and Central Amusements International), who points to the Air Race, a prototype designed by Mega Disk’O creator Gianbattista Zambelli. The thrill ride, which sends riders upside down at up to 4 g forces, made its world debut in Coney Island.

Zamperla’s Luna Park in Coney Island opened on Memorial Day weekend. The park is currently open weekends through Halloween.

An off-ride POV video (also by Coaster Force) conveys the visual impact of the ride. When you’re standing at the perimeter, it really does feel like the aerobatic planes are diving towards you!

Today in Coney Island, the Wonder Wheel’s 90th Anniversary will be celebrated with suitable fanfare: live music by the Hungry March Band, the Banjo Rascals, and Curtis Eller, and a variety show featuring some of Coney’s most colorful performers. The free show on the Boardwalk is from 4 – 8 pm. Everyone who rides Deno’s Wonder Wheel on Saturday will receive a free Wonder Wheel 90th Anniversary collectible button. Here’s the place to buy your tickets…

The landmarked Wonder Wheel has a ticket booth that’s a Coney Island treasure. It’s a rare survivor of the early days of carnivals and amusement parks, when each ride had its own ticket booth and many rides were independently owned. Like the Wheel, the ticket booth was built in 1920 by the Eccentric Ferris Wheel Company. Originally called “Dip the Dips,” the new ride was described as a combination of the scenic railway, Ferris Wheel and Chute-the-Chutes.

Today when you ride the Wonder Wheel, your biggest decision will be Stationary or Swinging? The gliding and dipping cars, which are called the Swinging Cars, are a thrill not to be missed!

Last week Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park in Coney Island debuted a brand-new Samba Balloon ride. Manufactured by Zamperla, the family ride seats 32 children or 16 children plus 8 adults in colorful spinning tubs designed to resemble hot air balloons. Deno’s amusement park features 22 rides including the landmark Wonder Wheel. Bon Voyage!
